Our PrinciplesThe Checkpoint has a clear set of principles to which it adheres in relation to recruitment and selection. SafetyThe overriding principle is that of safety both in relation to the client but more importantly, the vulnerable people who are being looked after by the staff selected. QualityA large proportion of staff enter the Care industry without vocational qualifications. It is therefore important that the ‘soft skills’ and motivation of applicants are addressed in the selection process. No person is recommended for appointment unless The Checkpoint is satisfied that they will meet these standards. TransparencyThe selection procedures are transparent and honest. The written permission of the applicants is sought before selection is started and they are supplied with a copy of any report prepared (with the exception of any information that has been disclosed to the Company on a confidential basis). If a candidate is deemed not to be suitable for placement by The Checkpoint, they are informed. Managing ExpectationsStaff are given advice about the working environment that they are about to enter and the challenges that they may meet. The Care field is stressful and demanding and it is important that the realities of the work are outlined. The positive aspects of the work are also emphasised; the satisfaction of caring and the team environment are outlined. This is designed to reduce turnover and to manage expectations. SpeedThe systems are designed to be rigorous but speed is always of the essence in recruitment. Close contact will be maintained with the client to plan ahead as far as is possible and to reduce the time between commission to recruit and start of employment. Innovative SolutionsThere is always a shortage of good staff in the Care sector and the turnover rate is higher than most other service industries. The Checkpoint is committed to finding innovative solutions to the problem.
